A wonderful example of an Omega ref 166.0163, this was presented as a service award by British Gypsum to an FC Avann for 25 years service between 1950-1975. The watch has a lovely silvered dial with steel baton markers with black centers. The hands compliment the dial and are steel with black and lumed inserts. The seconds hand is black. Note: the lume no longer functions. It is powered by the 1012 automatic movement, this has a quick-set function for the date and also has a hacking feature that stops the watch from ticking when pulled out. In very good condition for a watch that is nearly 50 years old. I cannot see any evidence of polishing or restoration on it which is unusual as a lot of people have these polished back to look like “as new” again. It does have small marks and scratches on it as well as marks to the case back that have been created by a knocking bracelet at some point, all visible in the photographs. I think these small marks and the service award stamp further add to the pieces charm and uniqueness. I wonder who the person was and what happened to them, what has the watch seen? Quite often service award watches were not worn as much as regular watches, as the recipient frequently had no say in the watch being received and it may not have met the individuals taste!
